“Meal” is a powder form of the protein source used to create it. This is why meals have higher protein by weight than fresh meats…the water and fat have been removed. Nature’s Logic meals are dried versions of the high-quality protein sources that go into our foods: Clean muscle meat, which can contain the skin and bone for calcium and other nutrients, but with NO internal organs, feathers, feet, heads, etc.
Dry pet food contains a form of either grain or other starchy ingredient, not because of the nutritional value, but because it makes the kibble stick together and hold its shape. In our dry food, we use millet, a grain that is low in natural sugar and carbohydrates, gluten-free, and carnivore-appropriate.
Millet is a grass seed, similar to one a carnivore in the wild might consume from eating the stomach of a bird or herbivore. It is much more likely to occur naturally in a wild dog or cat’s diet so will be more familiar to their digestive systems. Nature’s Logic foods contain NO gluten, corn, wheat, rice, soy, peas, or potatoes.
Montmorillonite clay is used in some natural pet foods as a natural anti-caking agent. It allows high-quality pet foods to remain free of man-made and chemical agents for this purpose. In addition, it is a natural source of minerals so it may bring with it added health benefits to pets. Since montmorillonite clay comes from the earth, some customers have asked about contamination by dioxin. Nature’s Logic purchases its clay from a supplier whose product has been tested and shown to contain no dioxin.
Nature’s Logic uses Mixed Tocopherols, a natural antioxidant preservative naturally derived from vegetable oil with no chemical processes.
Nature’s Logic offers a full line of commercial pet food with no chemically-synthesized nutrients. All of the vitamins and minerals in our formulas are derived from food. This is the safest way to supply nutrients to pets. Here are the whole food ingredients we use to naturally supply pets with essential nutrients:
No life exists without blood, and the nutrients it provides to carnivorous animals are essential. Carnivores in the wild routinely consume the blood of prey animals. The animal blood is as natural a part of a carnivore’s diet as the meat and bone consumed from prey. It is an important natural food ingredient. Plasma supplies iron, sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, numerous vitamins, and over 18 amino acids. These nutrients found naturally in animal blood plasma play a large role in creating a safer and more natural diet for pets. The inclusion of porcine plasma is one reason Nature’s Logic does NOT need to add any chemically-synthesized vitamins, minerals, or other nutrients to our formulas.
Probiotics are naturally-present bacteria that reside in every pet’s normal, healthy digestive system. By competing for space and nutrients with the organisms that can make pets sick, these healthy microorganisms keep any pathogens present in check. Probiotics also support the absorption of nutrients and contribute to a healthy immune response. Nature’s Logic uses a probiotic blend chosen to complement one another and work harmoniously, for the maximum benefit:
Nature’s Logic uses probiotics developed using a proprietary process that creates strains that grow and multiply in higher temperatures. These thermo- positive probiotics remain viable for up to two years, without refrigeration.
Prebiotics are substances that selectively help the naturally-present bacteria (probiotics) to flourish, increasing their benefits on digestive health. Nature’s Logic foods contain chicory as a prebiotic. Its active compound, inulin, has been shown to stimulate the growth of bifidobacteria, which are regarded as beneficial strains in the colon.
Enzymes are proteins naturally present throughout all healthy bodies. Enzymes speed up various processes carried out by cells in the body. Certain enzymes are required to digest the different types of foods pets eat. Protease digest proteins, amylase digest starches, cellulase break down fibrous foods, and lipase digest fats. Nature’s Logic uses a proprietary blend of these four enzymes, specially formulated to support the digestive system of dogs and cats eating the high animal-protein diets formulated for natural carnivores.
Activated by Moisture
Dry pet food has very low water content. It is baked to reduce moisture which allows the food to stay fresh without refrigeration. The probiotics and enzymes have also been dehydrated and processed in a manner to ensure activity. Inside the bag of dry pet food, they are stable but inactive. When they come into contact with saliva and the moisture of the cat or dog’s gastrointestinal tract, they are rehydrated and begin their beneficial roles in aiding digestion. They only become active when they come in contact with moisture.
Added After Heat
These specially-prepared probiotics and enzymes are applied to the dry pet food after the heat and drying steps. This ensures that they remain viable and active when pets eat the foods containing them. They remain dormant until the right conditions are present for them to activate. The dried enzymes need moisture to become active, while probiotics require a source of food, optimal temperature and pH, as well as moisture to grow.
Nature’s Logic uses high-quality proteins and fats obtained predominantly from animal sources, just as dogs and cats would naturally consume in the wild. Our beef, chicken, duck, lamb, fish, venison, and rabbit come from human-edible processing plants and are simply the surplus not sold to supermarkets during the daily production cycle. The lamb, venison, and beef sources are all grass-fed. The chicken, duck, turkey, and rabbit sources are commercially-raised for human consumption and are fed vegetarian diets. They are antibiotic and hormone-free.
Since our foods are made from high levels of animal protein, all Nature’s Logic diets naturally contain sufficient levels of the Omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). They also exceed AAFCO*’s protein amino acid requirements for arginine, histidine, isoleucine leucine, lysine, methionine-cystine, methionine, phenylalanine-tyrosine, phylalanine, taurine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine.
