Meet Moses
When he was just 3 months old he was surrendered to the Animal Rescue League in Des Moines, IA because he was barking too much, jumping too much and very mouthy. Today that barking, jumping, mouthy dog is putting those behaviors to good use! At nearly 11 years old, Moses is a FEMA certified Search and Rescue Dog with Nebraska’s Task Force 1 an Urban Search and Rescue unit. However, about 2 years ago Moses handler Robin noticed he was starting to limp quite a bit while on their 3-5 mile runs. X-rays revealed arthritis in both front legs. They went through one round of stem cell treatment but found it was only good for about 8 months. Robin thought she was going to have to retire him because she didn’t want him on constant pain meds. Robin then took Moses to Dr. Christie Carlo at Avondale Veterinary Healthcare in Des Moines, IA
Dr. Carlo suggested a hair analysis and based on those results, his supplements were adjusted and he was switched to a mix of Nature’s Logic dry and canned food. Within about a month Robin noticed he wasn’t as sore as he usually was following training. That was about a year ago. In June of 2017 Moses was recertified with FEMA and this past fall, Moses was deployed to Hurricane Irma and he is ready to go at a moment’s notice if the need arises.
